H.264 plays everywhere up to 1080p. For 1440p or 4K, choose AV1 or VP9.

Tap Save file and keep the page open until the download starts.
Codecs, briefly
YouTube offers H.264 only up to 1080p. Higher resolutions use VP9 or AV1, which play fine in modern browsers, VLC and most phones but may need converting for older editors.
Container “Auto” picks MP4 for H.264/AV1 and WebM for VP9. You can force MP4, WebM or MKV.
An honest note about reliability
YouTube actively limits servers that fetch videos. Our YouTube support is best-effort: it may be slow or unavailable at times, and that won’t be a bug on your end. Other services are unaffected.

Is it legal to download YouTube videos?
It depends on the video and where you live. YouTube’s terms restrict downloading except where YouTube offers it or the rights holder allows it. Use ClipMagpie for your own uploads, Creative Commons videos, and content you have permission to keep.
Why did my YouTube download fail?
Most often because YouTube asked our server to prove it isn’t a bot. Try again later. Age-restricted, members-only, private and DRM-protected videos never work.
Can I get subtitles?
Pick a subtitle language under More options. When YouTube has a matching track, it’s embedded in the file.
What about very long videos?
There’s a duration limit on our server to keep it fast for everyone. You’ll get a clear message if a video is over it.
