Reddit videos, with the sound attached

Reddit keeps a video’s picture and sound in separate files, which is why so many “downloads” come out silent. ClipMagpie fetches both and hands you one MP4.

Known issue: Reddit now asks servers like ours to sign in with API credentials, so Reddit links may not download until we’ve set that up.

Higher than the source adds size, not quality.

Links you fetch show up here, stored only in this browser. Download links themselves aren’t kept; they expire.

Step by step

How to save from Reddit

  1. Copy the post link

Tap Share on the post, then Copy link. Short share links (/s/…) and v.redd.it links work too.

  2. Paste it here

Paste into the box and ClipMagpie shows the Reddit icon.

  3. Pick a format

Video for MP4 with sound, Audio for just the sound, Mute for a silent clip.

  4. Save

Tap Save file. Merging happens on our server while the file streams to you.

Why Reddit videos lose their sound elsewhere

Reddit’s player streams video and audio as two separate tracks. Right-click “save video” grabs only the picture. ClipMagpie merges the two into a single MP4 on the fly, without storing anything.

Reddit questions

Why does my Reddit download have no audio?

Some Reddit videos were uploaded without sound, or are GIFs converted to video. If the post plays silently on Reddit, the download will be silent too.

Does it work with NSFW or quarantined subreddits?

Often not. Reddit restricts those for logged-out visitors, and our server is logged out.

Can I save image galleries?

ClipMagpie is built for Reddit video and GIF posts. Plain image posts are easiest to save straight from Reddit.

What about videos linked from YouTube or elsewhere?

If the post just links out, paste that original link instead.
