About

A tidy bird with a simple job.

Magpies are famous for collecting shiny things. ClipMagpie does the same for the internet: paste a link to a video, a song or a photo post, and it hands you the file. That’s the whole job.

Most “downloader” sites make it a scavenger hunt: three fake Download buttons, a pop-under, a notification prompt, and a file that may or may not be what you asked for. We think that’s rotten, and we built the opposite.

Our promises

  • One real button. The black “Get the file” and “Save file” buttons are the only download buttons on the page. If we run ads, they’re labelled “Advertisement”, kept away from the downloader, and never dressed up as buttons.
  • Nothing stored. Media streams through our server to you and is never written to disk. We don’t keep a log of the links you fetch. Details in our privacy policy.
  • No tracking. No analytics scripts, no ad trackers, no fingerprinting.
  • Honest limits. If something won’t work (private posts, paywalled content, a service blocking us), we say so plainly instead of sending you around in circles.

How it works

The site you’re looking at is a small static page. When you press the button, your browser asks our processing server (running the open-source cobalt engine) to look up the media at that link. The server finds the best matching file and either points you to it directly or streams it through, combining video and audio on the fly when a service stores them separately.

A quick, invisible check from Cloudflare Turnstile confirms you’re a person and not a bot hammering the server. Most of the time you won’t even see it.

What it’s for

Keeping your own posts, saving a clip a friend made for you, archiving Creative Commons work, collecting references for a project, watching something offline on a flight. It’s not for re-uploading other people’s work as your own. Please read our terms.

Family

ClipMagpie is the sister site of Rounder, a collection of free tools that run entirely in your browser. Same values, different job.
